Managing Notifications
Overview
CAD ROOMS keeps you informed about project updates, team activities, and system status through both the Web Browser and the Desktop App. While they share some information, they serve different purposes in your workflow.
- Web Dashboard: Acts as your "Inbox" for history and collaboration interactions.
- Desktop App: Provides immediate alerts for system events and local file actions.
Web Notifications: Your Activity Inbox
The Web Dashboard serves as your notification history. It collects all interactions so you can review them at your own pace.
How to Access
Click the Icon in the top-right corner to open the dropdown menu.
What you'll see here:
- Collaboration Interactions: When someone mentions you (@name) in an annotation or comment, or when a colleague replies to your comment on a 3D model.
- Team Updates: See who joined your workspace and their role (e.g., "doug has joined as Guest" or "cmchr has joined as Member").
- ECO Updates: Status changes on Engineering Change Orders.
Key Actions
- Click to View: Clicking an item (e.g., "Mentioned in Annotation") will take you directly to that file or comment.
- Clear All: Use the "Clear all notifications" button at the bottom to mark everything as read.
Desktop App: System & Action Alerts
The Desktop App extends notifications to your Windows taskbar. Unlike the Web list, these are transient pop-ups designed for immediate awareness.
Exclusive Desktop Notifications
While the Desktop App also shows mentions and team updates, its primary value lies in System Alerts that are not available on the web:
- Sync Errors: If a file fails to upload or download (e.g., due to internet loss), a pop-up will alert you immediately so you can check and fix it.
- Pending Changes: If you have saved files locally (e.g., in SolidWorks), the app will remind you to "Contribute" them to the cloud to ensure version safety.
Note: Desktop notifications appear as native Windows pop-ups in the bottom-right corner of your screen.
Why This Matters
These notifications are designed to:
- Reduce context switching
- Prevent forgotten contributions
- Surface sync issues early
- Keep collaboration responsive and traceable
All without requiring the Desktop App to be open in the foreground.
Updating to the Latest Version
To receive these notifications:
- Open the CAD ROOMS Desktop App
- If an update is available, you’ll see an update prompt
- Follow the on-screen steps to install the latest version
Customizing Notification Preferences
You can customize exactly what alerts you receive and where you receive them (Web or Email). To access these settings, open the Notification dropdown and click the Gear Icon (⚙️).
1. Choose Your Channels
At the top, you can turn notifications on or off for specific platforms:
- Web App: Toggles the in-system alerts and red badges on the bell icon.
- Email: Toggles whether you receive email summaries of activities.
2. Fine-tune Activity Categories
Use the checklist to enable notifications only for the events that matter to you. You can set independent preferences for:
- ECO Management: Status changes, reviews, and comments for Engineering Change Orders.
- Workspace/Project Membership: Alerts when users are added or removed from your teams.
Important: After adjusting your checkboxes, remember to click the Save button at the bottom right to apply your changes.
